Those who have never had the bad experience of having a tough time renting a car because of bad credit may not realize the connection between bad credit and the ability to rent a car.
Living with bad credit prevents you from being able to live the mainstream life you see so many people enjoying. Not having access to credit means having to budget every single dollar and living paycheck to paycheck. It also means having to wait to make big purchases such as appliances, computers and furniture.

Wondering if you can rent a car with bad credit?
Well, you can, but you will have to do a little homework first. If you don’t you could be in for some frustrating times at the rental counter. Trust us.
Before you make a car rental reservation, make sure the car rental company will rent to you. Find out if you can pay with a check card (debit card) or if cash payments are allowed. Be careful, because some companies that claim to allow cash payments will still require that you hold your reservation with a major credit card. I know, this makes no sense to me either, but it is what it is.
We suggest you first make your reservation online to guarantee the lowest rental rates, and then contact the location you will be picking up from to make sure your form of payment is ok. Remember, your reservation is no good if the car rental company denies you the car rental in person.
When you call, ask if any additional paperwork is required for alternative forms of payments. Some locations will ask that you bring in a bill or other form of ID and often times the reps who answer the phone will forget to mention this important detail.
We’ve started a list of rental companies that accept debit cards (check cards) and those that allow cash payments. EZ Rent a Car is just one example.
