WalMart has launched a pilot rent-to-own-vehicle program at superstores in the Phoenix metro area. The company chose LIVE X Auto Exchange as its partner for the test. Vehicle service will be performed by Wal-Mart Tire and Lube Express. All contracts are paid bi-weekly and carry an initial term of four weeks.

Rental rates on pre-owned vehicles start at $69 a week. The basic program includes a limited engine & drive train warranty, Walmart Tire & Lube Express services (every 90 days), and vehicle theft protection.

I have to say, I did not see this one coming. Interesting new business for Wal-Mart. Local rent to own car dealer better get to work. Fierce competition is coming their way.
